Storm Chandra
Callout #6 🚨
Tuesday 27th January – STORM CHANDRA
At 6am the team were called out to support the multi-agency response to Storm Chandra which had brought intense, short‑duration rainfall causing widespread flooding. In particular, East Devon was hit badly due to lower lying land in its river valleys.
Throughout the day our volunteers, along with those from our sister team North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team and Devon & Cornwall 4x4 supported Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust responding to numerous incidents.
At 5pm our sister team Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth ⛑ relieved those volunteers who had been busy all day to continue to provide continued support to the full time emergency services.
Some of the incidents our team were involved in included:
· Welfare checks of flooded properties and farms.
· Supporting the evacuation of elderly individuals and in one instance their dog.🐶
· Assisting South West ambulance service in accessing/treating and retrieving those sick or injured wo were unable to leave their homes.
12 of our volunteers were involved in this incident.
