Injured walker on Corndon Tor

Callout #23 – Saturday 6th September

At around 11:30 the team were called to assist the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with an individual with a leg injury who was just off the summit of Corndon Tor, located between Poundsgate and Dartmeet.
SWASFT had despatched their HART team for the medical aspect and wanted our expertise in evacuating the casualty who has sustained a suspected broken ankle.
Fortunately, 10 members were already located at our Rescue Centre, doing Casualty Care training and equipment maintenance, and so were able to deploy within a few minutes of the call being initiated.
In combination with our HART colleagues, the injured individual was stretchered off the moor and handed over to a waiting SWASFT Ambulance in less than 90mins from being alerted, with the team being stood down at 13:00hrs.
15 of our volunteers were involved in this incident
We wish the casualty a speedy recovery
