Injured climber on Hound Tor

Callout #25 – Wednesday 8th October

At 1700 the team were asked by South West Ambulance Trust to assist with a climber who had fallen at Hound Tor and sustained head and chest injuries.
The SWAST paramedics, who were first on scene, were quickly joined by some of our volunteers. Whilst the paramedics focussed on medical assessment and stabilisation our team focussed on how best to extract the individual from where he had fallen.
After what was a tricky extraction involving over a dozen of our volunteers, the individual was stretchered the 300m back to the car park for transfer to a land ambulance.
The team stood down at 1830.
We wish the climber a speedy recovery.
We also want thank his climbing partner and two other climbers who initially came to his aid and raised the alarm.
25 of our volunteers were involved in this incident.
We are all volunteers and are fundraising to replace our ageing #Landrover any donations are always gratefully received.
