Dartmoor Rescue Group Joint Exercise 2026
Dartmoor Rescue Group Joint Exercise 2026
On Saturday 7th February, volunteers from across Dartmoor came together for the 2026 Dartmoor Rescue Group annual joint exercise at Postbridge. More than 50 volunteers took part, representing all four Dartmoor teams alongside colleagues from Devon & Cornwall Police and Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response.
A huge thank you to the Rapid Relief Team (UK), whose catering and gazebo provided much‑needed warmth and shelter from the relentless rain. Rescue 924, the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay, was scheduled to join us, but persistent low cloud over the moor meant they were unable to reach the exercise area despite several attempts.
The scenario simulated three separate incidents—two in the morning and one in the afternoon—giving teams the opportunity to practise multi‑team deployments, search techniques in challenging terrain, first aid, and an extended stretcher carry. All of this took place in truly “testing” weather conditions.
Craig Scollick, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Ashburton) Team Leader said:
“An 8‑hour exercise involving seven organisations, three incidents, some difficult terrain and some pretty appalling weather conditions was always going to be challenging and a real test of inter‑team working. The exercise was a great success due to the professionalism, stamina, resilience and good humour of all involved and puts us all in a great place for the next multi‑team/multi‑agency callout.”
A massive thank you to everyone who took part, supported, or stood by to assist. Exercises like this ensure we’re ready for the next callout and whatever Dartmoor can throws at us.
