Please donate, your support is vital

We rely on public and business support.

As a volunteer search and rescue team, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton rely on public and business donations for over 90% of its funding. The team doesn’t just rescue lost or injured walkers on Dartmoor, but is increasingly used by the Police and other emergency services to assist in many different types of incident across Devon and sometimes further afield.

In these days of austerity, Devon and Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance Service and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service don’t have the manpower or resources to deploy to all incidents that require specialist resources. Hence volunteer search and rescue teams are used increasingly in missing person inquiries, flooding incidents and injuries in remote areas to complement the full-time emergency services. We equip and train our members to cover land and water incidents and are on call 24/7 to respond where ever we are needed. Over time, alongside other mountain rescue teams across the country, we find we are being called more regularly and typically deploy over 30 times a year primarily across Dartmoor as well as rural and urban areas, such as Exeter and Torbay, across the county of Devon. Mountain Rescue teams are so much more than just mountains.

What would happen without us?
Without search and rescue teams such as Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton, vulnerable people such as children, despondents, dementia and Alzheimer’s sufferers; outdoor enthusiasts such as kayakers, paddlers, climbers, walkers and cyclists; and everyday walkers would be at much greater risk as there just isn't the resources in the emergency services to deploy to search incidents.

How much does it cost to keep our team of volunteers operational?
Its costs over £50,000 a year to run the team and we rely on public generosity to survive. We are very good value for money with our volunteers purchasing their own equipment and, on average, devoting 5 hours a week training, fundraising and attending callouts to those in need. We are always grateful to the public and organisations for their support. If you would like to talk to us about any fundraising ideas or donations you can email the Fundraising Officer via the form on the Contact page.
