Vulnerable male missing on Woodbury Common

At 20:26 on Sunday evening the team were called to search for a missing vulnerable male with mental health issues in the Woodbury area of East Devon. The team was stood down shortly around 02:00 with our colleagues at Exmoor and North Dartmoor Search and Rescue teams on standby to continue the search.

However good news shortly after we were stood down as the male was located. He had made his way to the Cat and Fiddle pub on the Sidmouth road after going out for a walk and getting lost, we believe in the fields towards Westpoint, possibly because he heard the Elton John concert!. He was fine and in good spirits although soaked through, but safe and well.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said ” Thanks to all Mountain Rescue personnel who turned out, it was a great effort by all in miserable weather and over tough terrain. We really do appreciate it especially, as people are out at all hours and have work / commitments the following day. I know that the home staff and the males family also wanted to pass on their thanks to all of your team members for coming out and doing such a remarkable job. #mortethanjustmountains
