Second callout of the day to assist the Devon Air Ambulance with a patient evacuation.

As a Devon search and rescue charity, we assist the emergency services with incidents across the county where they don’t have the equipment or resources to bring the incident to a conclusion themselves. On occasions, we also assist the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) to transport patients to their aircraft in remote areas where it is difficult to land close by the accident site. Today was one such occasion when we were tasked to a young lady who had slipped on a track behind Honeybag Tor and broken her ankle. Due to the location of the incident, we were deployed to assist the air ambulance Doctor with the casualty evacuation.

Our trained volunteers were on site within 25 minutes of the callout being raised and, along with the air ambulance crew, and a local farmer’s pickup truck, the lady was transported to the helicopter and taken for further care at Derriford Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Following the incident we were delighted to receive a thank you card from the casualty who thanked us for our care and good humour helping to keep her spirits up. It's always nice to be appreciated! She is expected to make a full recovery.
