Torquay Pensioner found following major search

At 17:43 today, our team of volunteers were called out to assist Devon and Cornwall Police in searching for a missing elderly male in the Babbacombe area of Torquay.

Peter Farmer aged 83 and a dementia sufferer, was last seen around 2pm, and as night fell the Police became increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Our teams of volunteers worked alongside the Police, Torbay RNLI, HM Coastguard and Rescue 106 helicopter launched from Portland in a major multi agency response.

Further care

Our Search Manager said “Shortly after 8pm Peter was located by one of our search teams a little rain soaked and confused and was attended to by one of our team Doctor’s before being handed over to the South West Ambulance Service for further care.”

“We frequently train with other agencies to make sure that when deployed on an incident, all agencies are aware of each others capabilities and work seamlessly together to give the best chance of success. Tonight this hard work paid off and we are very pleased that Mr Farmer has been found swiftly.”

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton have approximately 60 men and women on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist the Police in searches not just on Dartmoor but across Devon including urban areas like Torquay.
